About Matthew Oldford
Born in 1980 in Canada, Matthew Oldford is a successful entrepreneur, real estate investor, and developer and the founder/owner of Matty Renos, a residential renovation construction company known for its seamless design-build process, attention to detail, and quality products. He is also accredited as a Chief Financial Planner (CFP).
Getting His Feet Wet in Construction
At 22, after attending Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), Matthew Oldford began his journey into the world of construction by working for a local builder for two years. With no experience, he was a quick study and learned all about building systems and construction methodologies used in residential and commercial construction.
He then worked for a coastal roofing quoting agent for five years, where he was fast-tracked to a managerial position. During this time, he quoted commercial and residential roofs for projects ranging from $20,000 to $250,000.
Going Back to NSCC
In 2007, he returned to NSCC to earn his investment management accreditation. This program includes CCF, CSC, LLQP, CPH, and GIE. Matthew then began working for Scotiabank as a Financial Planner for five years before transitioning into the role of Mobile Mortgage Specialist. He applied his knowledge in the residential mortgage market until 2017, when he returned to the construction industry.
He joined the Laborer’s International Union of North America (LIUNA) as a foreman, managing 10 to 15 employees on various job sites over the course of a year.
Finding Success in Property Conversions, Renovations
In 2018, leveraging his finance background and construction expertise, Matthew Oldford founded Matty Renos. He began by converting one of his residential homes into an Airbnb, which proved to be a great success. This was followed by converting a single-family home into a duplex for another Airbnb.
These projects helped him build a solid local reputation. He began collaborating with clients while continuing his own developments, including a duplex conversion with ZZAP in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He deepened his understanding of building codes and permits, enabling him to tackle more complex renovations with million-dollar budgets.
His insistence on partnering with top-tier engineers, planners, and architects, as well as maintaining excellent relationships with city officials, earned Matthew respect in the industry.
